Pupil Premuim Strategy 2025-2026

(3-year strategy)

Our Pupil Premium Promise at Kerr Mackie

At Kerr Mackie Primary School, we want every child to thrive—academically, socially and emotionally. Pupil Premium funding helps us provide extra support for children who may face barriers in their learning.

What is Pupil Premium?

Pupil Premium is extra funding from the government that supports children who: - receive free school meals (or have done in the last 6 years) - are in care or have been previously - have parents serving in the armed forces.

It’s important to know that a pupil does not need to be on school dinners for school to receive pupil premium funding however parents / carers must check to see if they are entitled and complete the appropriate forms.

It also includes pupils who have been eligible for free school meals at any point in the last six years, children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months and children where a parent serves in the armed forces. At around £1,000 per eligible pupil, this money is for schools to decide how to use in order to improve educational attainment of children from less privileged backgrounds and for all children in general.

We use this funding to ensure all children have the same chances to succeed.

How We Use the Funding

We focus on three big areas:

1. Excellent Teaching

·       High-quality reading, writing and maths teaching in every class

·       Extra staff training to help children remember more and make strong progress

·       A strong focus on language and early literacy in the Early Years

2. Targeted Support

·       Small-group and 1:1 interventions for reading, phonics, maths and writing

·       Speech and Language therapy in school every week

·       Specialist support for children with SEND

3. Enrichment, Attendance & Wellbeing

·       Financial support for clubs, trips and enrichment opportunities

·       An Inclusion Team supporting children’s wellbeing and behaviour

·       A dedicated Attendance Team supporting families with routines and attendance

What Difference Does This Make?

We aim to ensure that children receiving Pupil Premium: - make excellent progress in reading, writing and maths - attend school regularly and feel confident and happy - take part in clubs, trips and wider school opportunities - feel supported, valued and part of our Kerr Mackie community
