Sound
Curiosity
In the Autumn term, Year 4 focused on how sound is made and how we hear sounds. We learnt that sound vibrations travel as a wave from an object (source), through solids, liquids or gas to our ears.
Challenge
To demonstrate that sound travels through solids, we made string telephones and tested them outside in our Forest School area. We also made predictions about which material would make the best ear defenders and then we investigated it.
Confidence
We explored pitch, the measure of how high or low a sound is, using different various instruments. Once we were confident explaining how faster vibrations created high-pitch sounds and slower vibrations create low-pitch sounds, we drew high-pitch sound waves with a shorter sound wave and low-pitch sound waves with longer sound waves.
