Colour Me Happy Colour Me Sad
Our week in Nursery this week started by playing with a huge parachute! We used it to help us name and recognise different colours from red, yellow, orange and even pink. We needed to know them to help us with our new story Colour Me Happy, Colour Me Sad. We discussed our favourite colour and used our name labels to stick our names next to our favourite, after counting them up we noticed that lots of people like yellow and blue!
We used our favourite colours to create pictures inside with crayons and outside on the ground with chalk.
Sticking with our colour theme we sorted objects by colour in Maths this week. We started by sorting objects by red and not red and moved onto sorting lots of different objects by their colour. To help us practice we had coloured pompoms and coloured bowls on our finger gym table. Our job was to pick the pompoms up with tweezers and carefully drop them into the right coloured bowl. It was lots of fun.
We continued looking at the story 'Colour Me Happy, Colour Me Sad' in Literacy this week. We used the story to help us name our own feelings and to understand that other people have feelings that might be the same or different from ours. Looking in particular at the emotions angry and calm. We talked about how they differ from each other and how different calming techniques can make us less angry. We practiced different techniques to manage angry emotions such as breathing exercises or yoga. We've been trying really hard to remember to use these if we felt angry or frustrated while we were playing with our friends in provision.
