Light
Curiosity
We launched the topic by gradually revealing objects in a box and trying to group them. The children quickly realised that they could be sorted into transparent, translucent and opaque. We then explored the eyes and used a scale model.
Confidence
Over the half-term, the children learnt that light travels in a straight line, they explored the magic of refraction and shadows.
Challenge
The children designed their own investigations about shadows and how they can grow. Working scientifically, they collected data and analysed this. We ended the unit with mini-investigations. The children tried to create rainbows with mirrors and torches, alongside trying to use Newton's colour wheel and see if they could merge the colours.
