The Gingerbread Man

We started working on our new story 'The Gingerbread Man' in Literacy this week.

Miss Wilkinson read the story to us encouraging us to join in with known phrases (once upon a time, one day) and the main repeated refrain (run, run as fast as you can you can’t catch me I’m the gingerbread man).

We used props in the small world area and stick puppets to start to retell the story in our own words. To help us describe what is happening in the story we used Colourful Semantics questions Who? and What Doing?. Using these symbols we were able to draw the Gingerbread Man and explain that he runs away from the little old lady and the little old man.

We made our own Gingerbread Man biscuits. After they had cooled, we decorated them with icing and added smarties for buttons.

We made sure to eat them up straight away to make sure they didn’t run away like the Gingerbread Man in the story. They were very tasty!
